The Cypress Cyclones finally broke their losing streak in front of a supportive home crowd Saturday night. The struggling team decisively defeated the Saskatoon Westleys 6-2.
The Cyclones had lost 11 consecutive games – their last winning score was against Assiniboia on Oct. 17.
Head coach Blaine Stork isn’t precisely sure what changed the team’s luck, but he sure was pleased with the win – as was the rest of the team.
“It was almost like a sense of relief, it was like, ‘Finally.’ They just seemed confident again,” said Stork.
The Cyclones traveled to Pilot Butte the next day to play the top team in their South Division and fought a valiant battle, finally losing by just one goal for a final score of 5-4.
“Today it (the confidence) showed. We had a lead, then they had a lead and we just didn’t get discouraged by it, it was good,” said Stork.
Tonight, the Cyclones will face off against the Swift Current AA Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. to host the second annual Food Bank Cup in support of the Salvation Army.
“The guys are looking forward to it and it’s all for a good cause,” said Stork.
Fans should remember to ensure food is not expired. Even if it is considered a non-perishable item such as a box of Kraft Dinner or a can of soup, all items have expiration dates. The Salvation Army, though always grateful for help, cannot accept or use any food item which is expired. Any gifts must be unwrapped and unopened.
