There is a big difference between organic and natural grass fed beef. I have a neighbour who has been charged under the stray animals act who says his beef is natural. I believe it is. Organic--no. The cattle have eaten crops that have just been sprayed with chemical. These cattle sould not go into a natural beef progam either, but they do. I don't think there is enough ways of verifying what you are getting so I wouldn't spend my money on any of it. Unless you are buying direct from a producer that you can trust you really have no idea what you are getting. It should be less expensive to raise natural beef than the convemntional, yet the natural producers feel they should get more money.

anony:
Organic beef does not have to be grassfed. An animal feed organic grain is still organic.
Some grain does not hurt a beef animal. Feed lots tend to push far too much grain through the animal damaging their liver.
I have raised organic beef for my own consumption and fed whole organic oats to them with no problem.

I enjoyed your post. If I may, I would like to suggest my farm web site. We have plenty of information on organic, grass-fed beef.

Sumas Mountain Farms is the only producer of 100% certified-organic, lifetime grass-fed & finished beef in the Lower Mainland of BC (Canada). We also offer chicken, eggs, pepperoni, jerky, salami, sausage, farmer sausage, and more.

Because our beef is 100% grass-fed & finished, the quality of the meat is exceptional, and the flavor is unsurpassed. Plus, it is more nutrient-dense and packed with healthful Omega-3's than conventional beef, which is healthier for you, your family, and the planet.

Please visit http://www.sumasmountainfarms.ca/ for more information! We have plenty of recipes for you to try.

Thanks.

Under what product name is your beef sold?
I looked at their magazine in which this new line of natural products was featured as a PC brand. The magazine is online and there are regional zones for each magazine, but I checked and this all natural line is being promoted across the country.
But this is just one product line, of course, which the article talks about.
Thank you and I hope your beef operation continues to do well!

I would like to offer up the fact that Loblaws does indeed have a Canadian Natural beef offering in Ontario. Our brand Beretta Ranch supplies many stores in and around the Toronto area with antibiotic and hormone free beef. They have been offering our products for two years now and we have seen steady growth and great customer feedback. As a company we have enough cattle to supply many more stores in other provinces, but dealing with a business as large as Loblaws means we have had to be patient and realize that decisions take longer than we might like. We are very pleased with our relationship to Loblaws and the support they have given us in growing this truly local and natural brand of beef.

The statement that there is not enough of natural beef available in Canada is a shocking surprise. Then i realized it was untruth and all about price.

But it could be an opportunity waiting to be filled. It is relatively easy to raise hormone and antibiotic free beef. Even feeding them chemical free feed and pasture is fairly easy. The difficulty is verifying it. And the processing adds to the cost by the sounds of it.

Large corporate buyers are difficult to deal with as they, know the market and won’t pay a die more than they have to. And one cannot blame them. But to be dishonest about it and say there is not enough supply is just plain ummm dishonest.
Buyers of natural products will pay more but they will also pay less if they can. Can’t blame them either.

It would be very interesting, very interesting indeed to have protesters in front of Stupour Store telling consumers the Natural beef come s from America not Canada. It would make for marvelous news. And i think it would do some good.

Loblaws Inc. will in the end listen to where the dollar is going. If the Natural products from USA bring the most profit that is what we’ll have. Consumers need to be educated one more. If Consumers support Canadian Natural Beef that is what the big retailers will supply even if it costs more.
But over all the consumers wallet speaks louder than his/her heart ever will.
