Relative says man arrested at Tompkins a ‘monster’

The Badger has learned that the man arrested at a Hutterite Colony last weekend created a false identity – possibly to attract potential victims met on the Internet.
“He basically uses dating websites to cherry pick women who are in a more vulnerable sort of state. He gives them all kinds of bullshit – he’s a pilot, that he’s in the military, that he’s a widower – to play on sympathy,” said the family source close to 40-year-old  Keith Currie and who doesn’t want to be named publicly for fear of retribution.
Currie is from Ontario, though at the time of his March 19 arrest, he had no fixed address. He was wanted in Ontario on 43 charges, including sexual assault with a weapon, sexual interference, sexual touching, death threats and false pretenses. Also wanted in B.C., the experienced criminal was found guilty of 79 convictions in Ontario since 1987. He is now serving 13 months in a Saskatchewan prison after pleading guilty to one count of possession of stolen property and one count of dangerous driving as a result of a March 18 incident.
His arrest came after Currie repeatedly visited the workplace of a woman at Tompkins. She became suspicious and after work, recorded the license plate of the truck. Before she could call it into police, Currie was knocking at her door, presumably having followed her home. She ignored him and he departed as her husband came home. She called the plate into the RCMP, who then confirmed the truck was stolen from B.C.
RCMP quickly arrived and cornered the suspect within town, but Currie rammed the police car before escaping. A manhunt ensued the following day, prompting schools across the division to be locked down until the offender was found. Members of the Carmichael Hutterite Colony observantly picked up on the clues, and hot on his trail, called the RCMP in where an arrest was subsequently made.

The source from Ontario says the woman in Tompkins is a very lucky heroine.

“She’s got pretty big balls, that lady. He’s pretty imposing. He’s 6’3” – he’s a pretty big guy.”

The source portrayed a troubled man who dropped out of school at Grade 9, but ravenously devours highbrow literature. Jumping in and out of jail, Currie was described as never having been able to hold down a job and as having displayed sociopathic tendencies since he was a young boy.

“He’s never held a job. He’s never been gainfully employed – never.”

The source says Currie targets women on the Internet to subsist by taking advantage of them financially or by outright theft. Additionally, they claim the man has been involved in a string of relationships, all abusive, and that he never raised any of his three children.

“If you talk to women who have been in relationships with him, all of them have been abused at some point,” said the source, adding concern for women who may have been victimized, but are afraid to come forward.

The source says one woman said Currie created a fake personality to represent a daughter that would write to the potential female target, saying things like, ‘My dad is so happy he met you, He has been sad since my mom died.’

“You can find him on half the dating websites. I think these women don’t come forward. It’s hard because there’s that whole, ‘What were you doing on a dating website anyway? You were gullible to buy in.’ Society really blames the victim and it’s tough,” said the source.

In order to pull off the alter ego, he chose professions which command respect in society and recently, Currie claimed to have been in the military.

“He’s never been. He’s never been in the military,” said the source.

On Currie’s Facebook page, he has an entire photo album dedicated to the military service he never performed. Contained in it are 43 photographs, all copied from other sources. In two, he has created arrows pointing at officers which read “that’s me.”

The source says he has displayed sociopathic (now called antisocial personality disorder) tendencies since he was a child.

“Right from when he small, it was always the lying, always the manipulation, always the stealing.”

The source wants women to know it’s ok to come forward and to seek justice if they’ve been harmed by him.

“He’s a monster.”

Two of the sites he is found on in addition to Facebook are Plenty of Fish and Match.com.

Currie will face his outstanding charges in Ontario after serving time for the convictions in Saskatchewan.

Anyone using the Internet is advised never to reveal their identity to unknown persons.

Commendations to the Badger. Good digging on this.
One wonders what goes wrong to sociopathic at such an early age.
He has caused suffering for far too many.
