Those of you – my regular readers – that know me, know that it’s been a bit of a crazy year. Well, hang on tight, because it’s going to get a little crazier still. First, a little history.
In 1999, I purchased my first (and only) home in Winnipeg. I sold it in July of 2007 and moved to Maple Creek. In July of 2008, we moved from our little house in Maple Creek to a larger one. In July of 2009, we moved to Leader. Guess what’s happening July 2, 2010?
It’s funny, ...

There was a joke that made the rounds a while back, in which Jesus and Satan were having a competition to see who was the better computer programmer. They each typed furiously for hours, and were neck and neck, when suddenly right before they finished, a bolt of lightning struck, killing the power.
St. Peter, who was presiding over the contest, checked Satan’s progress first. Satan had lost everything. “Too bad,” said St. Peter,” let’s see how Jesus did.”

The health region urges people not to refer to the Leader Hospital as closed. No, we’re supposed to say it’s experiencing a temporary disruption of service. Which is a little like saying New Orleans had saturation challenges posed by Katrina. Or that Michael Jackson is having a prolonged nap.
I like to call a spade a spade. And the fact of the matter is, the Leader Hospital is closing for awhile. Yes, it will be open during the day for lab work, foot work and X-ray work – I understand that. ...

I love Maple Creek – it was my first home in the Southwest and it’s always given me more than I could ever hope to give back.
Like this weekend, when I came back to river hill country with five tons of Maple Creek mud. Thank you! Now I realize I also need an old rodeo truck with an interior made entirely of plastic.

‘Course, it was Cowtown Pro Rodeo and according to local historians, I’d be a fool to expect good weather. On the bright side, my dog is now mud-phobic, which may not ...

I have never been to the WalMart at Medicine Hat. Or the one in Kindersley. I’ve been to the one in Swift Current, just once. But as an academic exercise in an effort to find something in under 10 minutes – not made in China.
A few years back, I made the decision not to ever go into a WalMart again. And I fell a couple of times, half from marital pressure. Half because I was weak.

In retrospect, it’s like quitting smoking – after you’ve gone so long without it, it would be criminal to ...

Many of you might recall my little problem with all the fornicating felines near my home a while back.
You might remember a tale of multiple tails, one cat in heat and 13 others in pursuit. In case you missed it, my yard turned into a pussycat porno, and try as I might, I could not deter those 13 toms from marking every nook and cranny of my property. I don’t own a gun, but I sure came close a couple of times.
Shortly after I published the column, the furry hellions backed ...

I’ve have requested the magazine allow my rebuttal, so let’s wait to see if I will be granted the opportunity before I publish my trenchant reply in The Badger. So, without further fanfare, let’s move onto something even more petulant.

Sometime in September or October, I will back myself into the economy class of a 747 and come to you. I hope I get to sit next to one of your fine citizens so I might ask questions during the flight (and perhaps not be squished by one of my own countrymen who has been cheating on their significant other with McDonalds.) There are so many things I don’t know about you that I want to find out.
You see, I am an American. Let ...

When I woke up Sunday morning, I’m pretty sure I was going to write angrily about the 40 new Super WalMarts being built this year. Or, I was going to rant about Animal Planet’s promo encouraging viewers to eat less beef.
But then we played the U.S. and after that, I could have had to stay up all night writing outside, naked in the melting snow and I wouldn’t have complained.
So, if anyone had any bad news to tell me, Sunday would have been a perfect time.

VANCOUVER – If I’ve learned one thing from covering the Olympics in Vancouver it’s that a scribble pad makes an impeccable umbrella.
And on Feb. 26, a day after Canada’s women’s hockey team achieved golden status, I dodged rain drops with my note pad as I rushed with anticipation towards Team Canada’s drizzly downtown press conference.
Since a hockey roster is a large entity, only four Canadian women’s hockey players were in attendance and they included Jennifer Botterill, Jayna Hefford, Caroline Oulette and the ...
