Dear editor,
Numerous citizens are fast losing faith in our elected officials in Saskatchewan. Various citizens in the southwestern part of the province have taken the time and energy to write the premier and the minister of health concerning the problems with the Cypress Health Region. These citizens, many of them seniors, wrote in good faith to their elected officials and most have not had any response, especially from the minister of health.
For the majority of people writing their elected officials is not an easy task and not one undertaken lightly. ...

Dear editor,
The community of Southwest Saskatchewan has been given the opportunity by the Ministry of Health to achieve the highest standards of healthcare possible in rural Saskatchewan now and into the future. The success of this initiative will now depend on the co-operation and transparency of the Southwest community, the Cypress Health Region and the Ministry of Health.
We ask that everyone in the Southwest community continue the longstanding tradition of supporting those who are appointed to serve on various committees as the project moves forward.
The negotiated agreement that was outlined ...

Dear editor,
The next (EXPENSIVE) great Canadian screw up! Remember gun control and the metric system?
The other day on the news at noon Steve Primrose chair of the board for CCIA (Canadian Cattle Identification Agency) was on, patting himself on the back for opening yet another office in Saskatchewan, the third one so we are told. One of the great features was that the people there were going to be able to show the cattle producer how to put a tag on a cow’s ear.
Mr. Primrose! This info comes in the ...

Dear editor,
As Saskatchewanians, we enjoy many privilages – citizens of a free country; a country built by integrity, sacrifice and determination.
Our laws are based on Christian ethics, for government was established by God. Although there has been departure from it, the mosaic law as set out in Genesis (the first book of the bible) is still the basis of many of our laws today – “Thou shalt not kill”, “Thou shalt not steal” etc. The western world has been prospered because of this. Our governments make laws for our protection ...

Dear editor,
There seems to be a lot of questions popping up about health care in the southwest region of the province.
The questions that are being asked by the citizens all seem to involve concerns about the management of the region. Firstly, they revolve around the citizens perception that the senior/upper management of Cypress Health Region (CHR) gives the impression of being composed of bureaucrats who are high handed and appear to have disdain for the citizens of the region. The citizens are asking if this is reality or ...

Dear editor,
Heathcare in the southwest is almost non-existent. When I came here in 1969 there was a doctor in every small community and small hospitals. They did small operations in Eastend and Frontier – yes there was a hospital and a doctor there as well. In places like Shaunavon and Maple Creek, bigger surgeries were done like appendix and gall bladder and in all cases babies were delivered.
This region because of the geography is isolated. Folks can’t get to Swift Current in bad weather, roads are impassable – just take ...

Dear editor,
I spent Wednesday, Jan. 20 sitting in Federal Court in Winnipeg as a farmer-applicant on behalf of the Friends of the Canadian Wheat Board. Our case is about the voter manipulation by the Federal government in 2008 in our farmer-funded Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) Director elections.
Instead of using the majority of their time to extol the virtues of the Minister’s letter of instruction which stripped thousands of farmers of their automatic voting rights, the government used most of their time to argue that farmers like me did not have ...

As a young woman who grew up in Maple Creek I have been shocked at what has happened to the health care system there. I found it strange when I learned that Maple Creek could no longer service pregnant women in labor and deliver babies, but thought that wasn’t too bad.
Then I started hearing and seeing signs that the hospital would be closed, including over the time that I was in town visiting my family after Christmas. I don’t know about anyone else, but I know that I have ...

Dear Editor,
After my letter to the editor last week, there is NO doubt in my mine how the people of the Southwest feel about our healthcare situation and the people at the top. I received an overwhelming amount of phone calls, e-mails, Facebook messages and people stopping me on the street. The line I heard most was, “I could not have said it better myself!” So common sense tells me I speak for a lot of people.
There are so many things I that just don’t make sense to me. ...
