I was part of the Red River Cart Trek and it was so much fun. The Miywasin Center from Medicine Hat are disussing another one for next year. It should be that much better as it will be the second Trek.

Stefan Meyer's name's spelt like this also. I hate to be picky with stuff like that but I get irritated easily by it. Also if you want to talk about local hockey talent, the Columbus Blue Jackets Derek Dorsett from Kindersley is another guy, Calgary Flames goaltending prospect Matt Keetley is originally from the Richmound area. If you want to get technical Shane Doan was born in Eston but never played there and grew up in Halkirk, Alberta. However, a guy by the name of Scott Hartnell (Philly Flyers) used to live and play minor hockey in Eston when his father was stationed there as an RCMP officer. There are also numerous guys from the area still playing in the minor leagues or university and college hockey. I wouldn't be opposed to looking into getting some interviews with some of these guys for the Badger if they are interested.

I was pretty sure that Brooks lived in Leader for a little bit before his family moved out to Wawota and that he was actually born in Medicine Hat. I think they have since changed all his info on the hockey to being born in Wawota because it's his hometown. Might be wrong, but I know when he was drafted it listed him as born in Medicine Hat at that time. Dorian you are missing a couple key facts on our distant cousin in the article, the fact he was also a standout for the national world junior team and also that the bulk of his whl career was spent in Seattle where he really became a star in that league. I noticed you were able to get a short interview with great aunt Joyce, but really I am sure he would have been more than willing to do a quick interview with you if you would have got a hold of him on facebook.

Glad to have the highway re-opened. Really appreciate the efforts of everyone who worked to have it open. We found out how fortunate we are to have that highway. We had to travel sooooo far out of our way to get anywhere. Once again - Thanks!!!!!!

Before moving to Maple Creek in 2004, I watched what WalMart's arrival did to the business community in Prince Albert. I'd guess about 1/3 of the downtown merchants closed within 3 years of WM's arrival in town. I have to confess, I've actually purchased a couple of items in WalMart since 2004, but only after striking out everywhere else. We ALL have too much stuff, and not shopping at WalMart has been part of my commitment to dejunk my life. I think I can safely say that I won't darken their doorstep for one year.

Hey Sheri

Great article as always. I can't remember the last time I bought anything at Walmart. I'm sure it 's been at least 5 years. I don't miss it. I don't plant to ever got back.

My biggest personal complaint with their business model is that things have gotten so cheap that they don't actually work anymore. This isn't just Walmart, but they started it and every one else has been forced to follow.
